Spreading Christmas Cheer

December 12, 2018The students at Saint Frances Cabrini School will be spreading some Christmas cheer around town this holiday season. Under the guidance of art teacher Deb Pettit, every student, from K5 through 8th grade, is creating a “Christmas Cheer Card” to be placed out in the community.
Before they designed their cards, the students talked about the everyday challenges that we all face, and how important small, simple acts of kindness can be. Christmas is a joyful holiday, but for people going through a tough spot in their lives, it can be a difficult time.
Mrs. Pettit explained that her idea for the project was, “Just to remind people that God loves them, and we are all here to help one another. One small act of kindness like this can make a difference.”
Each card is about the size of a playing card. The students decorated one side. On the other side is a special Christmas message, designed to inspire or just to make someone smile. When the cards are completed, the students will place them somewhere out in the community, in the hope that they will be found, and brighten someone’s day.
Each card is numbered, so the students can track their messages of cheer as they’re found. People who find the cards are asked to send a message to Cabrini, via the school’s Facebook page, website or just by calling the school office, to let the kids know which card was found and where. Then, the kids hope the finders will leave the card someplace else for another lucky person to find.
The students begin work on the cards in art class on Monday. The public can watch for cards starting the week of Dec 17th.
